Howdy,

Longtime Waller County resident, Texas A&M graduate, and community advocate Shannon Birkelbach has officially announced her candidacy for Waller County Commissioner, Precinct 2. With deep roots in the community and a forward-thinking vision, Shannon pledges to lead with integrity, fiscal responsibility, and a passion for preserving the values that make Waller County home.

“I’ve watched our county grow, and while progress is welcome, it must be managed wisely,” Shannon said. “We need conservative leaders who understand the importance of honoring our past and planning responsibly for our future.” With a unique blend of business acumen and hands-on leadership experience, Shannon brings a diverse skill set to the table:

  • Entrepreneur: Proven ability to launch and support new initiatives, navigate challenges, and drive growth.

  • Accountant: Focused on cost efficiency, transparent budgeting, and fiscal accountability.

  • Project Manager: Skilled at organizing complex operations, aligning people and resources, and delivering timely results.

Having worked in all three areas, Shannon is prepared to offer decisive, creative, and efficient financial solutions to support infrastructure, services, and quality of life in Waller County. “As your Commissioner, I will prioritize smart growth, protect you, as taxpayers, and ensure that rural voices remain heard in the face of rapid development,” she added.

Shannon’s Story.

Shannon was born in Houston but her family moved to Fieldstore when Shannon was young. She loved being "In the Country", where she could have room to run and ride her horses. Shannon Graduated from Waller High School in 1990 and then attended Texas A&M University. There she earned a degree in Accounting and met her husband, Phil. Shannon and Phil were married in 1994 at Waller Baptist Church. After college Shannon lived in Houston for a while due to Phil's job, but she visited Waller often to see her parents and horses. In 2006 they finalized building their dream horse property and moved back to Waller County where they live today.

Shannon's faith has always been important to her. She attended Waller Baptist Church until college and while at A&M she attended Central Baptist Church in Bryan, where she actually met Phil. Shannon's Christian values dictate everything that she does. Every action and every decision are based on Biblical, Christian principles.

Shannon was never very interested in running for political office. Her parents raised her to appreciate the freedom and voice we have to vote but she spent most of her time running multiple businesses, serving people in various ways. Living her dream job of utilizing her horses in her coaching business was a blessing. Politics seemed distant and incapable of actually helping anyone. That attitude changed for Shannon in 2020. Shannon saw that the government could do great harm to people under the guise of "helping." Many of her friend's businesses as well as her own were deeply effected by federal overreach. Not long after that, Shannon was a delegate to the Republican Party of Texas' Convention. She started to see that she could get involved and make a difference in the political arena.
